2 The Media Studies Theoretical Framework Production Processes There are three key stages to the process of creating a media product and making sure it reaches the audience: • Production • Distribution • Circulation. Look at the list below and decide which column of the table each process should be put into. 1 Marketing the product (for example, in a social media campaign). 2 Organising funding. 3 Promotions and tie-ins with other companies. 4 Deciding on the creative team: appointing a director or designer, assigning a project to a journalist or writer and so on. 5 Making the product available for the audience to consume, for example a broadcast on television. 6 Casting of actors, models and so on. 7 Sale of merchandise associated with the product. 8 Creating content for the product: writing copy, filming footage, taking photographs and so on. 9 Timing the launch or release of the product . 10 Organising and structuring the content: design and layout, editing and so on. 11 Planning the production: scripting, draft designs and so on. 12 Setting a budget. 13 Publicising the product: release of a media pack, press or television interviews and so on.
