WJEC Vocational Award Constructing the Built Environment Level 1/2

Specialist sub-contractor responsibilities KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING • Comply with the directions and instructions given to them by the main contractor or the employer. These directions are often referred to in the contract that forms the basis of their relationship. • Coordinate with other sub-contractors or tradespeople by planning and managing their work to optimise health and safety, quality production and programme aspects of the works. It is often the transition (move) between phases of work or different trades where issues arise, such as sharing areas of the works at the same time or potentially working over each other. • Remain interested and helpful when consulted about matters that affect their health, safety and welfare by taking care of their own health and safety and others who may be affected by their actions or work. This includes reporting anything they see which is likely to endanger either their own or others’ health and safety. All contractors should always remain cooperative with the main contractor, fellow workers, other sub-contractors and other dutyholders, for example where different trades are working on the same element such as a concrete frame they should agree a pattern of work that is safe and productive by not working above or under each other in case tools or materials are accidentally dropped, which could cause an accident or damage work. • Strive to achieve the highest standards of quality that are relative to their craft, skill or trade. Once again, KPIs are an effective way to recognise exemplary quality together with trade awards and recognition. • Attempt to refine their methods to improve safety and production such as prefabrication of components or mechanically cutting materials off site in greater controlled environments. 133 AC1.2 Describe responsibilities of those involved in construction projects
