WJEC Maths for AS: Applied sample

16 Introduction This topic builds on and reinforces your GCSE work on graphs and charts used in statistics. Rows, columns or tables of data are a starting point in statistics, but to make them a bit more exciting we can present the data in graphs and charts. Presenting them in this way not only improves their appearance, it also makes it easier to make comparisons of the data and spot trends. As well as being able to construct these charts you must be able to select the most appropriate graph/chart to present a certain set of data. You must also be able to spot mistakes in graphs and charts produced by others. This topic covers the following: 2.1 Interpreting diagrams for single variable data (histograms, box and whisker and cumulative frequency diagrams) 2.2 Scatter diagrams and regression lines 2.3 Making predictions using equations of regression lines 2.4 Measures of central tendency (mean, median and mode) 2.5 Measures of central variation (variance, standard deviation, range and interquartile range) 2.6 Selecting and critiquing data presentation techniques 2.7 Cleaning data (dealing with missing data, errors and outliers)
