WJEC Level 3 Certificate in Food Science and Nutrition

19 280 Section 7: Assessment Unit 1 Internal assessment Introduction The internal assessment for Unit 1 requires you to apply the knowledge and understanding you have gained from the teaching and learning of Unit 1 to a Learner Assignment Brief (LAB), chosen from a selection that are set by WJEC. This controlled assessment is summative , i.e. it evaluates your learning at the end of Unit 1 by comparing it against the Assessment Criteria (AC) for this unit. The work you produce will be internally assessed by your teacher and externally moderated by WJEC to determine the level you have achieved in demonstrating your ability to apply your knowledge and understanding. You will not be given any feedback on your work until it has been assessed by your teacher. Guide to terms and abbreviations: The following terms and abbreviations will be used throughout this chapter. They are defined here for you to refer to as you work your way through the chapter. ⦁ Model Assignment: For internal assessment, WJEC has produced model assignments for each unit. Each assignment contains a Learner Assignment Brief (LAB) which provides you the learner with the opportunity to address all Assessment Criteria (AC) and all performance band requirements. ⦁ Learner Assignment Brief (LAB): The information contained within the Model Assignment from the examination board, which sets out what you have to complete for the internal assessment. The LAB will take the form of a scenario describing, for example, a fictional venue, and will give details of the target group of people whose nutritional needs you will need to meet. ⦁ Assessment Criteria (AC): What you need to do to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding. ⦁ Performance Band Mark Bands (PBMB): The range of marks which are allocated for each performance band. ⦁ Performance Descriptors (PD): These are a series of statements included in the PBMB setting out what you are required to do in order to meet the AC at each of the different Mark Band levels. ⦁ Learner Outcomes (LOs): What you need to know and understand and can apply to your assessments.
