Police officers Police officers are very important in criminal investigations. First of all, the starting salery for police of cers is between £19,971 and £ 23,000. This provides an insentive for people to join the proffession, this means there will be many of cers to help in criminal investigations. Police of cers can specialise in the force in units/sections such as rearms or CID (Criminal Investigation Department). This means if you join the police force there are many routes of progression in terms of careers. However, at times, police officers may make mistakes during criminal investigatons. Sometimes police may be placed under intence pressure to prevent crime or arrest criminals and this may lead to errors in investigations. Police officers were present during the Gareth Hughes case. Assessor commentary • This candidate has selected a relevant role of personnel. • The strengths are not focused on the effectiveness of police officers in criminal investigations, but rather the positives of joining the police force. This would need amending and developing in order to achieve high marks. The candidate should add more strengths to this paragraph too. • The limitations are focused on the effectiveness of the police during investigations, however the limitations are too brief. A detailed evaluation would be needed for each role. • The limitations should consider cost, expertise and availability for each role in order to achieve high marks. This is not considered here.
