2 The Media Studies Theoretical Framework Contexts The context of a media product relates to the time and place where it is produced. All media products are produced within a particular context that is likely to influence the use of media language and representations, and the messages and values communicated through the text. The ways in which media products are produced, distributed and regulated are also affected by the context, as is the way in which media audiences consume and respond to the media. You will need to consider the way in which the following contexts affect the set products: • Social • Cultural • Political • Historical (particularly relevant to the older set products).
