Key Questions to Ask When You Receive Your Set Brief Sample television brief: Audio-visual option Create an opening sequence from a new television crime drama aimed at an audience of 16- to 24-year-olds . You may choose to produce a sequence from a subgenre of television crime. Length: 2 minutes to 2 minutes 30 seconds. Sample music marketing brief: Online option One working homepage and a second, linked, page: Menu bar • Main image plus at least two other images (all original) to promote the artist or band. • One working link to a second page from the website: either a ‘News’ or ‘Biography’ page. • Written text promoting the band or artist and their music (approx. 150 words in total). • 30 seconds of original audio or audio-visual material related to the topic embedded into one of the pages, for example an interview with the artist or band, or live performance/rehearsal footage. What type of sequence (or print pages or webpages) do I need to produce? The set brief will stipulate the specific content that must be produced. It is important to make sure that you create exactly what is required. An opening sequence , as specified in the sample brief, has specific conventions that would need to be applied to the production. What genre do I have to create? The set brief will specify the genre of the production. You must use appropriate codes and conventions to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the theoretical framework. Who is the target audience? The audience will be clearly identified and your production must target the specific group in the set brief. The sample brief specifies the age of the audience, but other factors might also be stated in the brief, so make sure you pay close attention to the requirements. How much work must I produce? The length or quantity of work will be specified in the brief. You should adhere to these limits: if you produce too little, it is unlikely that you will meet all of the requirements; if you produce more than specified, the additional work will not be assessed. It is important that your product targets the audience that is specified in the brief. The brief will also include a list of minimum requirements that you must complete.
