Pearson BTEC National Applied Psychology: Book 2

Acknowledgements The team who manage and produce this book are simply the best. Illuminate Publishing, with the psychology list headed by the unique Rick Jackman, and assisted by Clare Jackman, Peter Burton, Saskia Burton and Vikki Mann, represent the best in educational publishing – always looking out for their authors and also for the people who buy the books. Nic Watson, our editor, puts nothing short of love into ensuring our final product is as perfect as can be. We couldn’t do it without her. The third part of our team is design, fitting the text and pictures on each page. The design came from the gloriously talented Nigel Harriss and then Sarah Clifford of Kamae Design had the job of implementing this and has done a fabulous job of it. Finally Cara, the lead author, owes much to Rob for the huge amount of work he has done (and always with such grace) and to both Dave and Jock for their excellent chapters and willingness to work to a tight schedule with downright cheerfulness! We also appreciate the invaluable advice from Mark. A very special thank you to all of you. The authors Cara has written many books for A Level Psychology, and she speaks at and organises student conferences. In addition to books, she is senior editor of Psychology Review . In a previous life she was a teacher probably for more years than you have been alive and also an examiner for an equally long time. Her spare time (what there is of it) involves travelling with her husband and/ or children (all now 25+). She lives in the Highlands of Scotland (despite being American by birth) and loves a long walk in the mountains and night in a bothy. Dave is Head of Psychology at Oldham Hulme Grammar School. When not teaching or writing he divides his time between his beloved wife and son, football, politics and Come Dine With Me . He does not share his wife’s enthusiasm for shopping but will go if he is guaranteed a coffee every half hour. He has an unfortunate – but nevertheless lifelong – commitment to Leeds United Football Club. Rob was an A Level Psychology teacher for more than 20 years, before turning to writing. He ventured back into teaching again recently and would like to give a big shout out to his ex-colleagues at Winstanley College. In his spare moments, Rob likes nothing better than to pluck away skill-lessly at his guitar. He is enthusiastically looking forward to Frozen 2 coming out, even though his granddaughters couldn’t care less. Jock is Head of Psychology and Head of Sixth Form at Watford Grammar School for Boys. He has taught Psychology for over 15 years and is a senior A Level examiner and CPD presenter. He is Chair of the Association for the Teaching of Psychology. Jock is interested in positive psychology, specifically the role of character strengths in student satisfaction and academic success. Mark is a teacher, writer and mental health worker when he’s not baking bread or playing football. He currently works with students in further and higher education, teaching sociological psychology and providing mental health support. He has written many textbooks, course specifications and exam papers over the last 25 years, usually whilst listening to long, slow albums of electronic music.
